Next18 Class 641 diesel multiple units “S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland” of DB AG
The Alstom Coradia A TER diesel multiple units were developed in the late 1990s as a joint project of DB and SNCF; 40 vehicles went to DB Regio.
They were or are in service in several regions: initially in Baden-Württemberg (Upper Rhine) and Thuringia, and from 2013 also in Upper Franconia (Hof area).
Since 2016, modernized vehicles have been operating in Saxony between Leipzig and Geithain.
From 2019, further multiple units were deployed on the Elster-Geiseltal network; since December 2024, the line has been extended to Halle (Saale) Hbf and is part of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.
