In order to accelerate the change of traction, the Raab-Ödenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG, an Austro-Hungarian joint venture, acquired six standard gauge locomotives in 1972, which were classified as the M62.9 sub-series. The M62.9 were based in Sopron and were retired in 1996.
