Information about the model
Until after the Second World War, compartment carriages, a type of carriage little known today, dominated passenger transport. The first compartment carriages were derived from the body of a stagecoach; several coach bodies were mounted one behind the other on a railway chassis. The compartment doors opened directly to the outside, allowing for quick passenger exchange. The Prussian State Railways, in particular, used various types of compartment carriages, initially two-axle, later three-axle; from 1890 onwards, four-axle carriages were added for express trains. From 1895, the first carriages were built according to standard drawings; from 1900, 700 longer carriages followed, built according to specifications D.1.21 to DI23.
