After the end of World War I in 1918,105 locomotives of the 178 series of the Imperial-Royal [Austrian] State Railways (kkStB) remained in the fleet of the newly founded Czechoslovakian State Railway CSD. At the CSD, the locos were placedin the group designated 442.0. The last locos were sidetracked in 1970, but several machines survived.
