Extremely Rare: Märklin 3356/3056 Schweiger Brown Crocodile – Koll's 84701
Collectors and Märklin enthusiasts alike know that some models transcend their mechanical beauty to become true legends—few are as iconic and rare as the Märklin 3356/3056 Schweiger Brown Crocodile, cataloged as Koll's 84701.
Originally based on the standard 3056 model, this version was customized by Schweiger, a well-known third-party artist and Märklin specialist in Germany. Only a limited number were produced, making it a highly sought-after piece in the Märklin collector community. What makes this model particularly special is its stunning brown livery—an homage to the historical Swiss Ce 6/8 II "Crocodile" liveries used in freight service. The hand-finished paintwork exudes old-world charm and showcases Schweiger’s exceptional craftsmanship.
Mechanically, it retains Märklin's classic build quality—solid die-cast construction, smooth running performance, and reliable three-pole motor. The locomotive is equipped with a functional pantograph, directional lighting, and excellent traction, even on tighter curves. While this model is not digital by today’s standards, it remains an excellent runner and display piece.
Visually, the model stands out in any collection. The deep brown paint, contrasting side rods, and weathered effect give it a realistic, vintage look. Unlike many factory models, each Schweiger crocodile has subtle unique details due to the hand-crafted nature of the work.
