Whereas the livery of the small DR shunting locomotives of BR 101 and 102 was originally blue, it soon became clear that this had to be made lighter in the interests of occupational safety. The new locomotives of type BR 102.1 therefore received an orange coating for the first time. The older engines were repainted from the mid-1970s onwards in the course of regular overhauls - as was 102 080-9, for example, which was based at the Rostock depot and performed shunting duties at the Bad Doberan station.
