After the end of the war, the Soviet state railway SZD added at least 21 locomotives of the Pt 31 series to its stock. All were used in the eastern territories as none of the locomotives had a DR number at that time. Only a few changes were made to the locomotives. These included the installation of the SA-3 central buffer coupling, which however only led to removal of the buffers in a few cases. The front was characterised by the small Russian smoke chamber door which was decorated with a Soviet star. Some locomotives had a skylight in the form of a dome on the roof of the driver's cab. All Russian Pt31 locomotives were decommissioned and dismantled between 1964 and 1967. Pt31-84 was last in service in the region of Lviv.
