Product Features and Details
Prototype: The French locomotives of series 230 were designed, developed and built by the EST Railway Company in 1906. The locomotives were manufactured in two production runs. Locomotives 3101-3230 were built from 1906 till 1913 and locomotives 3231-3280 were built from 1925 till 1927. There were many variations built and used not only by the EST Railroads but also by most other French Railroads at the time. The class 230s were very fast and robust. The EST Railroad used the locomotives for heavy express traffic between Paris and Belfort reducing the travel time by nearly one hour. In 1932 the EST Railroad modernized the locomotives by adding the latest innovations which increased the locomotive efficiency by 35%. The class 230s were one of the most important French steam locomotives at the time, they were so well made that they even influenced iconic French engineers like Andre Chapelon of the NORD Railroad. In 1965 the SNCF retired the last class 230 which ran between Paris and Strasbourg.
