Day 3, Friday, April 05
Dresden City Tour
We will meet with our professional tour guide. Dresden ranks as a world-class city of art and culture and their baroque architecture is one of a kind. We will see the rebuild Church of our Lady, the Royal Palace, Zwinger and the Semper Opera house. In the evening we are heading to the locomotive facility to watch the parade. I think it will be an experience to watch those smoking monster at dusk.
Day 4, Saturday, April 06
We are going back to the Steamfest. Today we can ride in different locomotive cabs, climb on all the different locomotives and take pictures of all the details. We will also get to watch different groups of strong men pull heavy weights at the steam locomotive pull and enjoy some BBQ in the roundhouse. Don’t worry; no one will go hungry because there is also a restaurant on site.
Day 5, Sunday, April 07
Steam Locomotive ride through the beautiful Elbe Valley
Today we climb on board our steam train. Our 3 hour ride will bring us through the Saxon Switzerland to the Czech Republic and back to Dresden.
Day 6, Monday, April 08
We will be on a steam boat from Dresden to the Bastei. The Bastei is an absolutely unique rock formation within this world. This day will be very relaxing as we enjoy the boat ride on the river and hiking through the Saxon Switzerland.
Day 7, Tuesday, April 09
This is one of the nicest narrow gauge train rides in Germany. We take the train from Dresden to Radebeul Ost. We will then change trains and use the narrow gauge steam train to Radeburg. On the way we can visit the Hunter’s lodge Moritzburg and then continue.
Day 8, Wednesday, April 10
We are transferring from Dresden to Dortmund. Our 5 to 6 hour ride will bring us through Saxony, Thuringia, Hessen and North Rhine-Westphalia. After we have reached our second hotel, you have the rest of the day off.
Day 9, Thursday, April 11
We spend our last day in Germany in Dortmund. The Intermodellbau show is probably the biggest hobby show in Europe. The show will not only include the big manufacturers’ displays, but also many small companies and clubs with their layouts as well. It will take you the entire day to take in all of the impressions.
