Discover, experience, and enjoy a small glass of fine wine: The German Federal Railroad once offered this in a true-to-style ambience on its tracks. “Deutsche Weinstraße / German Wine Road” was the name of a special train, which the DB sent out regularly from Ludwigshafen am Rhein into more than just the most beautiful wine regions. On board cheerful wine connoisseurs, who could leave everyday life behind them in wine tasting cars, arbor cars, dance/bar cars, and wine barrel cars. The rustic, two-color cars provided with lettering were converted in 1967 from three-axle rebuild passenger cars and four-axle limited stop fast train passenger cars. The first wine road train in use until 1983 enjoyed great popularity at that time. The new Märklin models harken back to this fascinating railroad era, when the German Federal Railroad still offered a variety of travel experiences. As in the past in the prototype you can use these models in a variety of ways – behind steam, diesel, and electric locomotives.
