Product Features and Details
Prototype:
The designation of the series already indicates it: The 01 often comes first when railroaders think of fast, powerful machines. It was able to defend this status for several decades.
A total of 231 units were built from 1926 to 1938. It was the first standardized locomotive with the 2'C1' (4-6-2) wheel arrangement and also the most powerful machine for express train service. Various minor modifications were made during series production. Particularly noticeable is the enlargement of the front running wheels from 850 to 1000 mm starting with the 01 102, and the brakes were reinforced at the same time. This allowed the maximum permissible speed to be raised from 120 to 130 km/h. The class was in service with the DB until 1973, and with the DR even until the early 1980s. There, 35 locomotives were reconstructed and re-designated as 01 5 starting in 1962. At the DB, 50 locomotives were equipped with the high-performance boiler of the 01 10 series from 1957 to 1961. Five locomotives have been preserved in working order, including the 01 150, which is probably the best-known representative of its class.
