Prototype: After the 142 series was no longer needed due to the decline in freight transport in Germany, some BR142's found a new home in Switzerland. They were bought by the Lokoop private rail company which overhauled the locomotives so they can be used in Switzerland. They added many new features which the Swiss Railroads require including an electric brake system. The SBB classified the new locomotive to Ae 477th. Additional BR142's were purchased by the Mittelthurgaubahn which ran both freight and passenger service in South-Eastern part of Switzerland. For hauling the historic Orient Express the BR142's were painted in the exquisite dark blue livery. The SBB assigned the locomotives number 477 905 242 191 and 906.
