Product Features and Details
After the double cars of the Königlich Württembergischen Staats Eisenbahnen had proved very successful, the Reichsbahn management in Stuttgart purchased similar cars in a steel construction type in 1929.
All main dimensions and many technical details corresponded to the 2-axle passenger car, the so-called Donnerbüchsen. However, the design with the central doors which took the flow of passengers into consideration had been taken from the regional rail cars from 1919. In 1929, 50 second class cars, and in 1930, 34 third class cars of the steel construction type, were purchased. Of the double car stock, 34 were taken and converted to centre cars for the new suburban rail car ET 65. The remaining 50 pairs were urgently needed for ?normal? passenger trains.
