    Visually best representation of DB Br 103 in N Scale December 15, 2015  Rating: 4

    Hornby's reissue of Arnold's new (ca. 1991 re-tooling) Br 103 remains the overall visually most accurate representation of the iconic DB Class 103 in N scale. This model represents a late era IV, locomotive, 103 113-7, the original of which survives to this day as an operational museum locomotive. Arnold's model has superb handling characteristics, both analog and digital, with fine low speed control and a realistic and not excessive top speed. I would give this model five stars if it weren't for the poor maintenance accessibility. Arnold made the chassis a few tenths of a milimeter too large which makes it very hard to remove the shell without risking damage. Additionally, the circuit board is located underneat the chassis, so you need to disassemble almost everything in order to access the DCC decoder socket. And that socket is located such that you need to cut away a little of the plastic casing below the circuit board in order to make room even for the smallest decoder.
