Day 4, Thursday, May 20

Cochem-Trier

Today we are on our way to Trier. We will ride along the Moselle, passing hundreds of vineyards, castles, monasteries and ruins. The Moselle district is one of the most picturesque areas in Germany. I am sure you will fall in love with it. Arriving in Trier we will meet our tour guide, which will show us sights like the Basilika and many other churches, Porta Negra, different baths like the Imperial Bath, the Forum Bath and the Barbara Bath. This is a breathtaking city with over 2000 years of history. After dinner we return back to our hotel.

Day 5, Friday, May 21

Cochem-Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg

It is time to say good-bye to the Moselle area and heading to Bavaria. Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg is our new destination. Nestled on the foot of the Fichtelgebirge it is the home of the biggest steam locomotive museum in Germany. Our ride will take over 6 hours, so after we are settled in our new hotel, we give you the rest of the day off, so you can explore the area.

Day 6, Saturday, May 22

Steam Fest Day 1

We start the celebration for the 175 years of the German railroad. Today we expect all the Express steam locomotives in Neuenmarkt. Aside from all those locomotives under steam we can also explore the locomotives in the sheds. There is also one of Josef Brandl’s museum layouts to admire.

Day 7, Sunday, May 23

Steam Fest Day 2

Today is the day for the regular passenger and freight steam locomotives. Besides that we will take a ride to Marktschorgast over the “Schiefe Ebene” one of the steepest grades in Germany. There is also a model train flea market. Maybe you will find something what you were looking for a long time.

Day 8, Monday, May 24

Steam Fest Day 3

This is the big day for the steam fest spectacle. There are steam- powered trains coming from all over Germany to Neuenmarkt. Even the Bavarian TV station is there to film this event. Trains will go up and down the steep grade, stop for taking pictures under full load, have drive-by with full steam ahead. This is an event that will set you back 80 years, when all those steam locomotives dominated this line.

Day 9, Tuesday, May 25
