The V 60 K locomotive remained an unfulfilled dream !

In 1956, the German Reichsbahn began to develop two diesel locomotives for their 750 mm narrow-gauge railway. The new locomotives were intended to replace the already aging IV K. For the development of 100 scheduled locomotives, there was a complex technical specification sheet with conditions to be met. The development of the locomotive initiated the locomotive production company Karl Marx Babelsberg in 1956.
The type approved locomotives V 36 4801 and V 36 4802 were completed in 1960 and 1961, respectively. Unfortunately, the two locomotives still revealed many "teething problems". The sound insulation was insufficient, there was a high noise level in the driver’s cab and outside the locomotives, and the accessibility to the aggregates was poorly resolved. After completion of the tests in the autumn of 1962, the locomotives were stopped and later scrapped.
Since the V 36 K did not meet their expectations, the HvM of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was looking for alternatives. The company was thus looking for diesel locomotives with 750 mm gauge in Czechoslovakia and Austria and found the T47 and the new ÖBB series 2095. The latter was to be tested in the Saxon narrow gauge network. For the one-month tests the HvM borrowed from the ÖBB the then very young locomotive 2095.11 in 1963, and stationed it in Wilsdruff. With its 600 hp she fulfilled the required line programme and the complex technical specification. Some said that the locomotive was highly reliable. The German Reichsbahn determined a need of about 30 locomotives in this category for their 750 mm narrow gauge network. The purchase of the desired 30 locomotives of the series 2095, which the DR would have ranked under the series V60 4801 - 4830, was not completed for economical reasons. For the one-month tests, the locomotive was even repainted according to the DR colour specifications. Additional four loco plates with the number [V 60 4801] were also made in the “Pockauer Schilderwerkstatt””Pockauer sign workshop”.
