Beginning of the 1930s felt the German Reichsbahn (DRG) increasing competition from cars and buses. There were therefore several attempts to improve the service to customers and to make traveling more attractive. To generate new impulses on the excursion traffic in the wagon factory Fuchs and from AEG (electrical part) were ordered two electric observation car, which should later as "Glass Trains" are among the flagship for the DRG. These cars had to satisfy specific requirements for excursion traffic in the extremely beautiful Bavarian and Austrian Alps: Passengers had to be unhindered in all can see the landscape of their seats from. This required in windows and roofs smallest possible use of opaque components. As many parts should also be taken from the standard railcar ET 25 and 31, for economic considerations. These conditions were met: Large windows on the front sides and the roof slopes allowed a good all-round visibility. The fully welded from profiles and sheet metal car body pointed to each side of the vehicle to only one central entrance. In order to have a clear view, the toilet room was lowered in the area of ??the center entrance almost to the height of the lower window edge. The backs of the seats were folded down. Two traction motors suspended from the two axles on the motor bogie, the second truck was not powered. The rest of the electrical equipment was arranged in accordance with the standard design principles under the car floor. From the 14th July to 13 October 1935 in the electrical area not quite ready elT in 1998 (later 91 ET 01) presented at the Nuremberg exhibition "100 Years of German Railways". Both railcar then drove from Munich in special service on electrified routes in southern Germany and Austria soon after. Popular offered then after the Second World War, the "Karwendel Excursion" or the "Great Alpine Tour". A bomb attack on Munich in the night of 9 on the 10th March 1943 ended the short career of the ET 91 02 He burned up completely. Had been moved to Bichl and was walled in at the locomotive shed his brother without prejudice to the war and soon made itself back in excursion service useful, and since 1968 he is referred to UIC justice as 491001-4.
