    Prototype: The VT137 diesel railcar in conjunction with control car VS 145 was used all over Germany in the 1930’s. During WWII the railcars were also used to transport German troops and materials. After the war the DB reclassified them under the number VT 36.5. The VT 36.5’s remained in service until the late 1960’s, the last two railcars remained in service with the George Mary's huts Railroad, where they were remained in service until 1978. In the East the DR retired the VT 137’s in 1967. After withdrawal of the DB the last two railcars remained with the George Mary's huts Railroad, where they were still in service until 1978. Due to the events of war, some railcars outside Germany remained in Austria, Italy and France.
