Product Features and Details
Prototype: It is the latest series of S-Bahn Berlin and at the same time the most common. In 1990 the representatives of the SNB and the Deutsche Reichsbahn translated (the S-Bahn networks were still separated) together to develop the requirements for a new, joint series.
In 1993, the first prototype was presented to the public, and the first delivery of a production vehicle takes place in January 1996. With these moves the BVG ¼-train concept (BR 480) was abandoned again and the 1/2 configuration favors. By 2004, a total of 250 halfmoves were handed over to the S-Bahn. The two railcars, with a driver's cab (481) and the other without (482) are connected by a transition. There is no transition, but a normal coupling between the two carriages 482.
The S-Bahn experimented with various color compilations. The Berlin wanted their S-Bahn in the traditional color scheme. From the series 481/482 225 the traditional colors were used, and thus corresponded to the color scheme and the traditional paint scheme of the series 480th. All were previously delivered in the original paint scheme. Cars were repainted in the subsequent period, which came in late 2007 for completion.
