    A curiosity during the Cold War: between 1970 and 1972, the USSR delivered three Yak-40s to Italy as payment for textile machinery. These were put into service with the regional carrier Aertirrena. Two of the tri-jets were leased to Olympic Airways and operated on routes between the Greek Isles.
