Prototype: The last new development of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was the four 125 km/h running freight locomotives of class 252. It was manufactured at LEW Hennigsdorf in 1991. The design was influenced by class 120. Technically and mechanically the locomotive was an adoption of class 250 and electrically an adoption of the class 243 units. Unlike the class 120 these locomotives have 6-axles and were designed as freight locomotives. The locomotives were tested by the DR and DB and in 1992 the engines were renamed to class 156.
