Prototype: When the performance of class 712 (type IV T) proved inadequate to the requirements of the Saxony State Railway, the 2-6-2 steam passenger locomotive class 755 (type XIV HT) was acquired. The Hartmann Company in Chemnitz provided the first of these locomotives in 1911. Hartmann built 106 engines until 1921.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft took over 83 engines in 1925. Several locomotives had gone to France and Poland for indemnity after the war in 1919. In 1967 the total quantity of engines were reduced to 30. After 66 years in service, the last locomotive of class 755 retired in 1977. 75 501 is preserved for the museum.
