Powered rail car train based on the following German Railroad, Inc. (DB AG) ICE 3 high-speed train prototypes, built starting in 1999. Consisting of: 1 class 406.0 1st class end car 1 class 406.3 BordRestaurant intermediate car 1 class 406.5 1st class end car Use: High-speed service.
Model: Era V. The train has a digital connector, a can motor with 2 flywheels, and an intermediate car with 4 axles powered. Length over the buffers 470 mm / 18-1/2".
The first thing you notice about the 3rd generation of the ICE powered rail car train is the streamlined engineer’s cabs with their dome or cupola shape. Behind the cabs are the lounges open to passengers that allow them an open view down the track. In comparison to the previous ICE trains, this powered rail car train with its powered trucks distributed equally the length of the entire train provides improved power transmission and a more balanced distribution of traction and weight. Also distributed throughout the train is the electrical equipment such as transformers, power converters, and cooling systems. These installations are located under the car floors, thus ensuring that the passengers have the greatest amount of space and freedom to move about. The ICE 3’s improved power to weight ratio also gives it better acceleration. With a speed of 300 km/h or 206 mph, the ICE 3 will shorten travel times on newly constructed routes. Energy-saving and environmentally friendly measures such as the regenerative braking system that feeds power back into the catenary network, and wear resistant eddy current brakes as well as cooling and air conditioning systems free of fluorocarbons are being used on the ICE 3.
