Heavy shunting for the V to 100 was easy. Therefore, the Federal Railroad gave the Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) a new series in order. The V 90 - designated in 1968 as class 290 - should be closely linked to the successful general-purpose locomotive V 100. This was less externally; the V 90 was much edgier than the V 100 but inside the Federal Railroad had proven components to install, for example, in the V 100.20 (212) working diesel traction and a very similar tractor PTO. On August 4, 1968, the Federal Railroad decreased the V 90001. 20 pilot series locomotives introduced in hard Rangieralltag the quality of the design under test. The serial version had only minor design changes. To 4 September 1974, the Federal Railroad received a total of 387 series machines from MaK, Deutz and Henschel. The procurement expired since the Series 291 stood by a more powerful version. In 290999 it was a leased to the Federal Railroad Bundeswehr-Lok. In 1990, the Federal Railroad bought her and gave her the number 290 408 To date, the machines work on all major marshalling yards and also strung handovers. However, they no longer carry their original numbers. After installing the remote control gave them the path the designation 294th
