DB night train Talgo an unusual step dared the German Federal Railroad in June 1992 She ordered for DM 124 million (= € 63.3 million) a first series of five trains of the type TalgoPendular 200 the Spanish company Talgo. These trains were all sixth-generation Talgo, which is counted from the Talgo prototype from 1942. The Talgo-articulated trains are an invention of the Spanish engineer Alejandro Goicoechea, who wanted to compensate for the end of the 1930s by a new vehicle concept, the disadvantages of heavy and little track friendly coaches. 1942 founded Goicoechea Oriol financier together with the patent the company Talgo SA in Madrid and presented with the Talgo I a first prototype with articulated three-point mounted car members and individual wheels before. "Talgo" stands for "Trenarticuladoligero Goicoechea Oriol" (= Light articulated by Goicoechea and Oriol). When Talgo each carriage body has only at one end of a single wheel drive, while the other end rests on the neighboring car. Only the leading end car has two chassis. Due to the short car bodies, the stub axles of the wheels in the arches provide a nearly radially, so that the wheel flanges start less strong compared to conventional vehicles and take up as the tracks less. This design allowed the Talgozüge very easily and quietly roll through bends. The basic concept of Talgozüge has not changed over the years, but continues to develop naturally. So came a radial Suspension Steering, passive tilt functionality "TalgoPendular" and adjustable to different track gauge bogies "Talgo RD" link. In the "TalgoPendular" DB the chassis and the tilt technology are structurally closely related. The radially-controlled single wheel drives have air springs below the roof level. This high-side spring arrangement, together with the vehicle body mounting a rotation of the bodies about a virtual axis of rotation which is located above the roof. Due to the centrifugal forces when cornering the car body oscillates by up to 3.5 degrees by bow outdoor application, reducing the forces acting on the passengers side forces. The first series consisted of 112 delivery vehicles and with the start of the summer timetable on 29 May 1994 then the scheduled time of Talgo traffic in Germany was recorded. This Talgo night trains ran in Germany initially as Intercity Night (ICN), later as DB night train (NZ) and latterly as DB City Night Line (CNL) between Berlin and Munich between Munich and Hamburg as well temporarily between Bonn and Berlin and Stuttgart and Hamburg . Each train consisted of a maximum of 22 cars of the categories comfort sleeper (with shower and toilet in each compartment), comfort seat car with recliners (one car for disabled people), Kajütliegewagen, bistro and reception cars, dining cars, as well as two additional Maschinenendwagen with baggage compartment, cycle parking and ski racks. The Talgo trains took over from conventional locomotive-hauled trains and night were each night with four units simultaneously go. The fifth set was used as a reserve. Upon delivery of two more trains in August 1996, the DB extended its Talgo insert for September 29, 1996 on a six-day circulation. In December 2008, the operation of the Talgo trains night ended after 15 years, for economic reasons and also because of the upcoming costly main studies.
