DB Talgo night train. The Deutsche Bundesbahn took an unusual step in June 1992. She ordered for 124 million DM (= €63.3 million) a first series of five trains of talgopendular 200 at the Spanish company Talgo. These trains were all to the sixth Talgo generation counting from the Talgo-prototype built in 1942. The Talgo articulated trains are an invention of the Spanish engineer Alejandro Goicoechea, who at the end of the 1930s through a new vehicle concept wanted to compensate for the disadvantages of heavy and little track-friendly coaches. in 1942, Goicoechea founded patent Talgo together with the financier Oriol company S.A. in Madrid and with the Talgo, I presented a first prototype linked three-point bearing car elements with single wheels. "Talgo" stands for "Trenarticuladoligero Goicoechea Oriol" (= Goicoechea and Oriol light articulated train). At the Talgo, each carriage has a single cycling work only at one end while the other end on the neighbouring car relies. Only the leading car has two bogies. Conditionally by the short bodies the stub axles of the wheels in the arches adjust nearly radial, so you less run wheel flanges as compared to conventional vehicles and take to the tracks of less. This design was very easily and quietly roll the Talgozüge through arches. The basic concept of the Talgozüge was not changed over the years, but of course developed. So, a radial suspension steering, the passive tilt capacity "TalgoPendular" as well as on different track gauges, adjustable trolleys "Talgo RD" were added. At the "TalgoPendular" of the DB, the chassis and the tilting technology are structurally closely related. The radial-driven individual cycling works have air springs below the roof level. This high suspension arrangement results in a rotation of the car bodies to a virtual axis of rotation, which is located above the roof together with the suspension of the car body. By the case of cornering, the centrifugal forces of the wagon body commutes to up to 3.5-degree bow outwards and thus significantly reduce the lateral forces acting on the passengers. The first series of delivery included 112 cars and Talgo scheduled traffic was recorded, with the start of the summer timetable, on 29 May 1994, then in Germany. The Talgo - night trains in Germany initially as InterCityNight (ICN), later as DB night trains (NZ) and finally as DB CityNightLine (CNL) between Berlin and Munich, between Munich and Hamburg, as well as occasionally between Bonn and Berlin, Stuttgart and Hamburg. Each train consisted of maximum of 22 vehicles of the categories comfort sleeper (with shower and toilet in each compartment), comfort pushchair with calm seats (of which a car disabled), Kajütliegewagen, bistro - and reception car, restaurant car plus two Maschinenendwagen with baggage compartment, bicycle parking and ski holders. The Talgo trains replaced conventional locomotive-hauled night trains and were each night with four units at the same time on the road. The fifth set was used as a reserve. With delivery of two additional trains in August 1996, the DB advanced dedication Talgo to September 29, 1996, on a six-day round. In December 2008, the operations of Talgo trains, night ended after 15 years for efficiency reasons and also because of the pending cost-intensive general inspections.
