Prototype: Electric locomotive BR 151 of the Deutsche Bahn AG.
Model: design in traffic red livery, single-arm pantograph and UIC number. The locomotives of the series 151 were procured for the heavy freight train service starting in 1972. It is the follow up series to the series 150 that was produced up until 1973. The machines have a sustained power output of 5.982 kW and reached a top speed of 120 km/h. They are also licensed to operate in the rail net of the ÖBB. with close coupling mechanism. low flanges
Model & Prototype Information
The German Class 151 heavy electric freight locomotives were built for German Federal Railway between 1972 and 1978. They were built as a replacement for the ageing Class 150's, in order to cope with the increased requirements of this type of locomotive, in particular the desire of a 120 km/h (75 mph) top speed. On the 21st of November 1972 the first locomotive, 151001, was delivered by AEG and Krupp. It was followed by 11 further pilot locomotives, which were extensively tested before the main order was built. Altogether 170 locomotives were ordered, which were based at first in Hagen and Nuremberg. Originally the Class 151 was also suitable for passenger service, however at present it is not possible because they are not fitted with safety equipment. Some engines were fitted with automatic coupling (type unicupler A69e) to haul heavy ore-trains.
