Prototype: The Class Re420 (Re4/4) is one of the most common electric locomotives on the Swiss Railways. Originally classified as the Re4/4, three-hundred and three Re420s were built from 1964 to 1985. The Re420s are dual-purpose locomotives; used in both passenger and freight service. They reach a maximum speed of 87 MPH (140 KPH) and produce 6300 HP. Frequently they are seen double heading freight trains. Many now work for private Swiss railroads and private train operators operating in Switzerland.
