The company Adtranz (later Stadler Rail) has developed four-axle regional railcars that were driven by diesel motors. The railcars were marketed under the name „Regio Shuttle“ or „RS1“. The vehicle concept was very well received especially by private railways. Since 2013, almost 500 Regio shuttles have been produced. The RS1 locomotives reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h and offer, depending on the variant, up to 101 seats and space for 94 standing passengers.
