Prototype: The Royal Austrian Kaschau-Oderberger Railroad class VIm #424 heavy articulate Mallet was built in Vienna in 1915 by the Wien-Floridsdorf factory and remained in service until after WWII. The VIm Mallet was fitted with a class 'R' four axle tender and painted in a dark green reddish brown and black livery. The VIm was a strong locomotive and used for medium and heavy freight service throughout the Austrian/Hungarian Empire.
Model: Micro Metakit first introduced the plans to build this model in 2004. Articulated Mallet locomotives have always been considered the most interesting types of steam locomotives. Micro Metakit's VIm will be a HANDMADE functional work of art. The locomotive will be constructed out of brass with extensive detail. It will be fully articulated just like the prototype. Model will feature full interior cab details, sprung loaded puffers, functional boiler door and much more. Six versions will be produced but they are very limited, only about 300 will be produced worldwide. Model will be delivered sometime in September of 2009.
