On 28 th April 1989 the two prototype locomotives of the diesel loco class 217 001 and 217 002 were officially declared as service vehicles for internal purposes, a change in the numbers being effected to 753 001 and 753 002. Both locomotives have already called on since 1974 for test and measuring purposes in connection with the testing of vehicles and have acted, for example, as a braking locomotive.
