Prototype: The BR 03 was delivered as a 3 cylinder streamlined locomotive by Borsig-Lokomotiv-Werke on Novemeber 7th, 1940. This class was designed for express trains with a maximum speed of 140km/h. The locomotive was based in Grunewald, Breslau and Leipzig. After 1945 it was owned by Deutsche Reichsbahn. The BR 03.10 locomotives, owned by DR, were refurbished at RAW Meiningen because of damages at the boiler in 1959. These locomotives were used for the heavy express train services between Berlin and Stralsund.
