Prototype: In the middle of the 50s the Deutsche Reichsbahn started to refurbish 56 locomotives of class 58.30 at RAW Zwickau. The result was a locomotive which was superior to the old version and powerful like the class 44 engines. Class 58.30 engines operated in the Saxony hill-side and around Gera. It carries heavy ore trains but also two 5-car double deck trains. In1981 the service of class 58.10 came to an end. 2 engines survived, the 58 3047 was operating as a historic locomotive until 1999 and the 58 3049 was reconstructed by railroad friends and is now in the Schwarzenberg railroad museum.
