The colour concept "Ocean Blue / Beige" was introduced by the DB in 1974. While the colour combination "Ocean Blue / Beige" was used for the normal passenger transport, the TEE and later also the IC trains were painted in "Purple / Beige" livery. The colours of the coach classes and types were therefore hard for travellers to distinguish and to find. So for example, it was not instantly recognizable where exactly on the platform the 1st class passenger coaches or dining cars were standing. The colour combination "Ocean Blue / Beige" was consequently replaced by a new concept in 1987. But then again, not all vehicles were immediately repainted. Locomotives and coaches in the colour design "Ocean Blue / Beige" still could be encountered daily at the DB AG in the epoch V.
