The class 62 was developed for the DRG [German State Railways] by the firm of Henschel. There was a total of 15 examples constructed, of which eight were given over to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the DDR [German Democratic Republic]. Up until 1967, they were housed around several loco depots, but assembled finally in Wittenberge.
