    The prototype was delivered from 1919. It provided 1,023 kW (1,390 hp), weighed 120.4 tons, reaching a top speed of 65 km / h 850 copies were built in total. They usually carried freight trains. As a final copy of the DB 56 2637 was stopped in 1963 and retired in 1965. Some machines, however, were further used as heating locomotives. Of the successful series even 150 locomotives went to Romania and Turkey.
