Product Features and Details
The J 4 is and remains the last and only true jeep by Toyota. The body, which is based to a large extent on the predecessor model J 2, is designed purely for functionality. Even in the interior, only the basic necessities are found. Characteristic of the J 4-series models are the round headlight mountings, which determine the frontal appearance of this type. The interior is crafted of inexpensive materials - metal and plastics. An enormous three-spoke steering wheel with a thin rim and a sheet metal instrument panel with five pointer instruments are among the Spartan interior fittings. Power steering was a $US 200 option in the USA, but was never offered in Germany. In 1982, a gasoline-powered J 4 cost 26,895 DM in Germany and they were basically all the same, whether hardtop or soft-top, delivered as six-seaters. The comfortable seating consists of two very low -mounted "easy chairs." For four other people, the J4 offers a 1.35-meter wide and 1.18-meter high space to sit, but that leaves only a 99-centimeter storage area. There are two fold-down seats without backs. This jeep ranks nevertheless among the most popular and gave Busch a reason to create this vehicle in 1:87 scale. One falls in love with its functionality and detail, creating a new collecting passion.
