The construction of "Reko cars" (reconditioned), as they were also soon referred to by railway staff and passengers, led to the almost complete replacement of old state railway coaches. The improvement in comfort thus achieved was naturally welcomed by the passengers, even if some of the original cosiness of the old compartment coaches was lost.
