Prototype: After the DR "E-locomotives" had been transported to the USSR as compensation in 1946, the E77 series locomotives returned to Germany at the start of the fifties. The RAW Dessau was than faced with the difficult task of making the E-locomotives, some of which were almost ready for scrapping, serviceable again for the newly electrified central German network. Large parts of the locomotive cars and add-ons were replaced. This meant that the transition doors, which were typical for the locomotives, were removed and instead, the face fronts were given three windows.
