Prototype: In addition to the T 8 that was reintegrated into the German National Railway inventory prior to 1949, German Reich Railways (DR) assumed further machines during the nationalisation of all small and private railways. For the most part, these locomotives remained in service on the DR's ancestral routes into the 1960s. 89 6576 was sold as a works locomotive and was still in use as a heating locomotive at a brickworks in Lower Lusatia in the mid-1970s. For these purposes, the tank locomotive was even equipped with a tri-axial trailer tender in order to extend the stocks capacity.
