Working cars have always been indispensable for the railway. For example, they have been used for the transport of building materials such as ballast or tools on any small construction site. However, since these so-called X-cars were not able to make money by transporting goods to third parties, one had to look for cheap solutions for the procurement of work cars from the outset. As a solution, it was a good idea to equip wagons of older designs by fitting them into work cars and to meet the new requirements. Due to the ever-changing needs and dismantling of wagons, the number of X-wagons varied between about 48,500 (1920), 25,000 (1930); 41.500 (1943) and 15.000 (1953). The BRAWA type Xr 35 is based on the Gms 30 type wagon, which lost its carriages at the beginning of the 1950s, or even before it had been damaged by war damage. The remaining bogies were equipped with new, fixed side walls and the car was thus adapted to their changed task areas.
