This unique railway ferry was used on the German island of Rügen, for the narrow gauge railroad there. For this country railroad, that was mainly used to transport agricultural products, it was too expensive to build a bridge. Originally powered by a steam engine when it was deployed in 1895, it was converted in 1913 to a diesel engine. The ferry narrowly missed a century of active service, running until 1993. It now is a technical monument, and is sometimes used in making movies.
